Windows Phone’s marketshare may still be a small piece of the larger competitive pie, but the expectations for the platform remain very high, especially among the developer community. In today’s tech market a mobile platform is only as good as the developer community that backs it. This can be seen in the fading Meego, failed WebOS and dying Blackberry markets. Once the developers no longer see an oppurtunity, they usually head to higher, more stable ground.
In a recent poll among developers, they picked Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform as the third platform behind iOS and Android as the OS devs were very interested in developing for. Coming in at 38%, the OS climbed by 8 points, according to ZDNet’s Matthew Miller.
The main reason for the draw to the platform seems to be the recent Nokia partnership and the potential draw of creating apps that will work with both Windows 8 and Windows Phone. With a slew of new Mango devices, the much greater marketing push we’ve witnessed as of late and the backing of the dev community, the future for Windows Phone is certainly bright.
