It’s no secret that brick and mortar cell stores which carry Windows Phone tend to be a tad uneducated and unfamiliar with the devices and OS. It has been recorded a number of times over about a secret shopper going into a (insert carrier here) store and the salespeople either not knowing what Windows Phone is, directing users to another platform, confusing it with Windows Mobile or having no demo devices even setup. This is a problem for the platform and it appears that Microsoft has decided to do something about it.

In a report by Bloomberg, Microsoft is planning on kicking the Windows Phone mindshare up a notch by both pushing new marketing campaigns with their OEMs, like HTC, and they are also planning on training salespeople on the Windows Phone 7.5 OS, so they can get the word out to new smartphone buyers. Windows Phone Marketing President, Achim Berg, notes to Bloomberg that they are planning to train hundreds worldwide for this task.

Microsoft also realizes that this thing isn’t just going to go gangbusters overnite. It will take time for people to associate the new Metro/tile UI with Microsoft and not bring up thoughts about a laggy, underperforming Windows Mobile device. Achim Berg also states, “This is a completely new platform, it takes time. It took time with Android, it took time with Apple. We have to show that we’re very capable and that we have the fastest and easiest phone.”
